When someone you know and love goes missing, it can be one of the most traumatic experiences of your life. But there are steps you can take to help locate your loved one and find out their fate and whereabouts. Some of the most common are contacting law enforcement, retracing their steps and spreading the word to others.
Immediately contact your local police department and file a missing person report. Provide as much information as possible about your missing person including their name, age, physical description and last known location. Include any unique identifiers such as scars, tattoos, braces and eyeglasses. If they were wearing any distinctive clothing or jewelry make note of that as well. Describe any other relevant details such as where they were last seen and if they have any mental health conditions.
Reach out to friends and family to see if anyone knows where your missing person is or when they were last seen. Often times people will know something about your loved one’s whereabouts that you did not realize.
If your missing person owns a cell phone, ask the police to check their records. The police may be able to triangulate their location based on the area where they last called or texted.
Post flyers in the neighborhood where your missing person lives, work and hangs out. Use a picture of the missing person to increase your chances of finding them. Also, make sure to use their real name instead of a nickname or an alias. This will help your search show up on Google searches.
